Based on a character idea for Dungeons and Dragons
Vardek Stronghammer brought up in a very devout family. Just before taking vows to become a paladin of moradin his family was viciously slaughtered by drow raiders. He takes this loss badly and blames moradin for not protecting those who were so faithful to him.

Well, players of followers of Moradin should keep in mind that Moradin expects his children to be very independent and gets very impatient with them when they expect him to do everything for them. Yes, it is not unreasonable for Moradin to grant protection to his faithful, but there may be mitagating circumstances, such as other diety's interferance. You should have a talk with your DM so they can come up with a devious plan to play up your back story to best effect.
